Building A Career In Healthcare: Alumni Spotlight on Yeidi
by College Possible - September 26th, 2025

As a first-generation student, Yeidi’s higher education experience continues to be shaped by the support of mentors, family and determination. Her degree represents more than academic success—it’s a testament to resilience and grit. She recently shared the story of her journey:
From a young age, my family instilled in me the importance of education and the value of hard work in building a successful career. I have always enjoyed school and was determined to pursue the highest level of education possible. When I reached high school, I knew I wanted to go to college, but I was unsure about how I would get there.
Fortunately, I met Wendy at the end of my sophomore year. She was my high school College Possible coach, and she became an invaluable mentor and friend as we tackled the college application process. We would discuss scholarships, FAFSA and the ACT/SAT tests — topics unfamiliar to both me and my family. As the eldest of three sisters, I was accustomed to figuring things out on my own, but thanks to College Possible and Wendy, I didn’t have to tackle the college journey alone.
Fast-forward to the end of my senior year: I graduated from high school with honors and also earned my associate of arts transfer degree from Blue Mountain Community College. I chose to attend the University of Portland (UP) to study biology and complete my pre-med requirements. Throughout college, I maintained contact with Wendy, who, although no longer my coach, continued to be a source of encouragement and invaluable support. Her belief in my potential, coupled with her tireless review of my essays and personal statements, played a significant role in my success. To this day, I continue to reflect on the impact it had on me to know she was there and truly cared about me.
During my college years, I faced numerous challenges, including the pandemic, which interrupted my freshman year and delayed my return to in-person classes until junior year. Despite these obstacles, I persevered and completed my degree in four years.

During my time at UP, I earned a place on the dean’s list for five semesters, studied abroad in Austria, took on leadership roles across campus, completed an internship and graduated debt-free — all while supporting my family as we purchased our first home. Looking back, it was a whirlwind, but I was able to get through it because of the support system I had. College Possible was part of it, along with the Dell Foundation, the Renaissance Foundation, many amazing mentors, and my family and friends.
Now, I am part of the workforce, serving as a philanthropy/executive assistant for The Foundations at Kadlec. Alongside my team, I support the Kadlec Regional Medical Center, its clinics and cancer center by fundraising and utilizing donor contributions and grants to enhance the health of our community and surrounding areas. While my role focuses on data, financial reconciliation and business operations, it has provided me with valuable insight into healthcare from a business and financial perspective.
I am currently exploring different specialties and am working to return to school to earn my medical degree. In the meantime, I am dedicated to serving my community and continuing my personal and professional growth.
