PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A locally-based radio station grew in popularity so much — it needed a bigger space.
On Friday night, KOIN 6 News was there during a celebration of the new home of All Classical Radio and its media arts center.
All Classical Radio — 89.9 KQAC FM Portland — is our newest neighbor here in downtown Portland’s KOIN Tower.
It’s been around for 41 years — and started at Benson High School.
Now — it’s grown into an international radio station with listeners in more than 100 countries.
The president and CEO of All Classical, Suzanne Nance, told KOIN 6 the people here in our area are the roots of the station’s success.
“This community helped us build all classical radio, and we have 250,000 listeners who enjoy the music, the healing, the connection. We also uplift all the artists of our region and I’m just so grateful, truly, that this community stands behind all classical radio so strongly.”
The innovative space has an eye on the future — with a goal of helping arts and culture thrive.
On Friday night, Irving Levin performed in the new state-of-the-art performance hall that’s named after him. It’s one of five high-tech production studios that help support the station’s programming, as 98% of what you hear on the airwaves is produced locally.
A public grand opening is set for Dec. 8.
The Irving Levin Performance Hall at KOIN Tower is an intimate 3,000 sq. foot, one-of-a-kind, 100-seat performance hall and event space, available for performances of local musicians, composers, artists, writers, children’s theater, and more.
This state-of-the-art hall will be the new home to All Classical Radio’s live weekly broadcast program, Thursdays @ Three.
